Everyone has a reason for doing things, that also goes for buying products. For me, buying a product, especially electronic products is the most frustrating thing to do in my entire life. Wondering why? Well, I'm never satisfied and always require more and more from each product I buy and because of that, I spend months reviewing a product before purchase. Also, with little or no money at all, my choices are very limited. So, mostly, I'll end up buying something with lesser features than I really wanted and regret buying it after some months.
Lets take for instance an example from 5 years ago, when I decided I to become a professional photographer. I started asking friends and photographers for their advice on which product I should buy. My first choice was the new Sony a100 camera, and I made my choice because it won the European award for the best startup DSLR camera of that year. Wrong choice, because no sooner I said that, people pounced on me saying that Sony camera's were new in the DSLR market and has very few lens choices on the market, even though every Minolta lens would work perfectly.
I had no other choice but to do a new research, the research took almost 2 years, and I finally decided to buy a Canon 450D, took it back after a week because I wanted more, I replaced it with the Canon 40D, which I returned a week later replacing it with the 50D. Very expensive, but it was affordable as I had a job. To be sincere, I was satisfied with it untill I lost my job two months later and had to sell the entire gear to pay my bills.
Now after 5 years and with a little bit of photography experience and no money at all, it was time to make a new purchase and work my way towards becoming what I've always wanted to become "A professional photographer". I started doing a research 18 months ago for my next purchase, and made a lot of final decisions on my way, but each decision turned out to be one of those shaky decisions I took in the past. Eventually, I decided to buy a Nikon d90 & a 18-200mm lens. I was certain those were exactly what I wanted till I heard that Nikon was bringing out the upgrade of the D90
The AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm F3.5-4.5G ED lens
The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens
Right on.... now a photo or two please. I'm getting excited to see what your talents and new gear will produce! :-) Happy shooting!
ReplyDeleteI'll do my best to produce something tomorrow. I'm still discovering the features the camera has to offer and it's been raining since Monday & I haven't yet found the will to risk my new camera.
ReplyDeleteHopefully will do something with it tomorrow.. Can't keep you waiting much longer, can I?
Very good decision :-)
ReplyDeleteMy next purchase will be a NIKON NIKKOR 105mm F2.8 MICRO/MACRO VR lens, since I have been eye candying and researching about this lens since a year now :-)
Honestly, after I bought the NIKON NIKKOR 50mm F1.4G prime lens, I became addicted to fixed focal length lenses, I think I will sell my NIKON NIKKOR 70-200mm F2.8 VRI zoom lens since it is like new and brings nearly the price I bought it for back, and I will purchase a fixed telephoto instead, NIKON NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II - Extreeeeemmely expensive though, but this purchase won't be anytime this year °_°
Have fun with your new gear ;-)
Greetz,
Joseph
So, if I'm right... you'll be buying the 105 this year and the 300 next year if possible?
ReplyDeleteI think they're both great choices, but I'm not sure if I'll buy a lens at the 300 range in the future, looks too big and heavy, but I'll never say never ;)
I wanted to buy an 85mm micro DX lens before I made up my mind on the final two above. I heard it was a great micro lens and could also be used for portrait photography, but I needed one wide-angle lens for landscape photography and one lightweight lens, that is also light absorbent for portrait photography. Also it should be within my budget and that's why the 35mm made it to the final two.
Good luck on your purchase and keep us posted.
The 105mm will be bought directly after I sell the 70-200mm F2.8, it is at ebay.de right now - So that means probably next week the 105mm Micro Lens will be mine :-)
ReplyDeleteThe 300mm will be bought probably next year, because this year the D700 will be replaced with the newer model after 2.5 years on the market now and in my possession (Might be either called D700s, D800 or D900-Rumours are still out and Nikon are holding on their little secret), and I want one . . . LOL :-D
I can wait on the 300mm, because first the price is not funny, and second I have to earn this ballistic amount before I spend it :-)
Greetz,
Joseph
Hopefully you'll get the kit you're wishing for and very soon. I'll be leaving at the end of next week and hopefully it will be the start of something good.
ReplyDeleteI'll be checking my email and blogger as frequently I can, but I think it would be once or twice in a week, but I'll surely follow you guys to see what you're up to.
I have an abscessed tooth right now and my face is half swollen, it's been like that for a couple of days, so I haven't had the will and time to test my new gear. The pain is killing me, but I hope to start testing it out tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day bro and keep me updated.
I am sorry to hear about your tooth, then get well soon, so that you can finally test the best thing that happened to you lately . . . ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreetz,
Joseph
You're awesome!
ReplyDeleteOff to bed now and hope the pain lessens and I can sleep after being sleepless for days.
Goodnight bro!
